The case on the murder of Veteran Journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga has been postponed till January 18, 2018.
CID requested a date to submit the report on the progress of the investigation, thus postponing the case.
Journalist Lasantha was murdered on January 8, 2009 in Attidiya.
When the case was taken up, CID informed court that palm prints collected from the scene of the crimes do not match other prints collected during the investigation.
According to the CID, they are yet to receive the hand writing analysis on the suicide note of retired army officer who claimed responsibility for the murder of Lasantha Wickremetunge.
Attorney-at-Law Athula S. Ranagala said: “..many years have passed, i have been representing the rights of the deceased. We are saddened by the way in which the investigations are progressing.”
Attorney Ranagala also poitned out that Lasantha Wickremetunge’s journalist notebook was taken into custody. However, a PR number has not been issued, as it should be.
“it has been revealed that these PR numbers are also different. We cannot be satisfied about the progress of the investigation..” he added
