Compensation will be granted to 155 big onion farmers whose cultivation were destroyed following the inclement weather.
According to the Chairman of the Agricultural Board, Sydney Gajanayake, a sum of Rs. 15.8 million has been allocated for compensation.
Recently, 1,100 acres of big onion cultivations were destroyed following the incessant rains, leaving 1,048 farmers destitute.
Only 200 farmers among the 1,048 farmers affected have been insured. The Chairman of the Farmers Insurance Board notes that compensation will be provided to all farmers who have obtained a scheme.
