Landslide warnings for Ratnapura District are still up given the heavy rain pouring down on the area.

Several locations surrounding Eheliyagoda divisional secretariat have been put on alert in case of landslides, said Pradeep Kodippili – Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center (DMC) Pradeep Koddipili stated that due to the possibility of landslides.

Update on earth-slip damages

Two houses have been damaged due to earth-slips in the Napamunuwa area, Piliyandala. The earthslips have blocked several roads which lead to houses.

There is a high risk of more earth-slips occurring in the area, say the area residents.

“..We calls on the authorities to take steps to cut down this mound of earth and clear this road..” said a resident.

Floods

Several low-lying areas of Haltota, Bandaragama have been submerged. And the situation is no different in low-lying areas along the banks of Kalu Ganga.

Meanwhile the DMC has requested the residents living downstream from Kukule-ganga tank to remain vigilant as spill gates remain open.

Meteorology Department data say the Kukule-ganga area received the highest rainfall (118 mm) over the past 24 hours.

The Met. Dept. also predicts that the prevailing showery condition would continue during next few days.
