An Indictment was served on MP Udaya Gammanpila and Sydney Jayasinghe before Colombo High Court Judge A.A.R. Heyyanthuduwa today (October 3).

What was the indictment for? – It was served in relation to an alleged misappropriation of Rs. 21 million in an illegal share transaction of a company owned by Australian businessman Brian Shadick.

It is alleged that Udaya Gammanpila and Sydney Jayasinghe had sold shares belonging to businessman Brian Shadick with the use of a fraudulent power of attorney.

The indictment was served over four charges leveled by the Attorney General.

As the defendents pleaded not guilty to the charges, the evidence of the first witness, Brian Shadick was heard before the court.

Udaya Gammanpila responded to allegations leveled by Attorney-at-Law Namal Rajapaksa saying that “this is a diabolic lie”

“This is the only charge leveled against me during my entire life, that is also about misappropriating hundred thousand Australian dollars.” said Udaya Gammanpila.

“Lets assume that i cheated hundred thousand Australian dollars, but the figure you said was $65 million dollars. Imagine, turning hundred thousand dollars in to $65 million. Thats about 650 times of that. Namal Rajapaksa was slinging mud at everyone, but he slung mud at the wrong person.”

MP Gammanpila said that he is hoping to “claim damages in the district court from Attorney at law Namal Rajapaksa and Sirasa channel (News 1st)”.

“Since Namal is a junior, i will demand 500 million and since Sirasa is a big organization, a billion rupees from them.” added the MP
