Indictments were handed to former Coordinating Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Major General Palitha Fernando, and the Chairman of Avant Garde, Nissanka Senadhipathi, at the Colombo High Court today.
The Attorney General had filed 47 indictments against them for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 35.5 million to allow the establishment of the Avant Garde Maritime Services Corporation to maintain a floating armoury.
The accused were released on cash bail of Rs. 100,000 each and two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.
Previously, Colombo HIgh Court judge, Ratnappriya Gurusinghe, ordered that the fingerprints of the suspects be recorded.
The released suspects were banned from travelling overseas and the case was postponed to October 20.
The dates for recording of evidence of the case were set by the High Court judge to be on March 19, 20 and 22, next year.
