President Maithripala Sirisena has said that, as Sri Lanka is a member state of the United Nations, he will work responsibly towards the well-being of all Sri Lankans, in accordance to the principles of the United Nations.
The president has made this statement during a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ád Al Hussein.
The Head of State has also emphasised that the process towards ensuring human rights and reconciliation in Sri Lanka will be carried out continuously.
President Sirisena, who is on an official visit to the United States to attend the 72nd session of the United Nation’s General Assembly, met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ád Al Hussein, earlier this morning.
During the meeting, Prince Zeid Ra’ád Al Hussein said that despite slow progress in the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka, the United Nations commends Sri Lanka’s efforts, and that the UN will always assist Sri Lanka in this regard.
