The Colombo High Court held that former Secretary to the former president, Lalith Weeratunga and former Director General of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, Anusha Palpitiya were found guilty, when the case pertaining to the ‘Sil cloth’ incident was taken up today.
Accordingly, three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 02 million, along with a compensation sum worth Rs .50 million to the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka was ordered.
The accused were charged over their involvement in misappropriating Rs. 600 million of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, to distribute ‘Sil cloths’ during the 2015 Presidential Election period.
