The residents of Mathotilla, Bandarawela have been cautioned to evacuate from their residences due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the area.
The Disaster Management Centre and the Bandarawela District Secretariat have informed the public that there remains a risk of landslides in Mathotilla due to heavy showers.
Steps have been taken to allocate space in two schools located in Abeygoda and Meerahawatte for the evacuees to take shelter. Mathotilla is home for over 600 people.
The residents cite the Uma Oya Project as the reason behind the risk of landslides.
