Udayanga Weeratunga’s request to annul the arrest order against him has been rejected by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne. Weeratunga has reportedly made the request through his attorneys.

The former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia has an international warrant to his name. The attorneys requested Courts that their client not be arrested if he travels overseas, or arrives in Sri Lanka.

However, the Magistrate rejected the request and said that the suspect should refrain from making such requests. The Magistrate said that instead, the suspect should surrender to the Police or to the Courts.

Noting that Weeratunga committed crimes that did not require a specific warrant, the magistrate said that he could be arrested at any given moment.
