The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) says that they have identified at least 1,500 locations in the Ratnapura District that are at the risk of landslides.
Acting Director of the Landslide Unit at the NBRO, Dr. Gamini Jayatissa said that over 700 of these locations have already been inspected. He added that over 1,200 houses are situated in these high risk zones.
Dr. Gamini Jayatissa said that with increasing rains, these landslide risk locations are being monitored with the use of automatic rain meters.
Meanwhile, issuing a weather advisory on Sunday morning, the Met Department predicts rain the in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Western, North Western and Northern provinces.
Fairly strong winds are expected at times over the country, particularly in North-western, North-central, Eastern and Uva Provinces and surrounding sea areas.
