An inmate who escaped the Trincomalee prison eight years ago, has been recaptured.
Police said the Colombo Chief Magistrate and the Colombo Fort Magistrate had issued warrants against the suspect for defrauding individuals promising them employment overseas.
The suspect had fled the Trincomalee prison in 2009, while being imprisoned for 21 cases of fraud.
Following his recapture, the suspect was remanded until August 28, after he was produced before the Hultsdorp Magistrate’s Court.
The Magistrate had ordered prison officials that the suspect be produced before the Trincomalee Courts on August 25.
