The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that although considerable rainfall has been received to the areas of power plants, the generation of electricity continues to be a challenge.

Media Spokesperson of the Ministry, Sulakshana Jayawardena said the water levels of reservoirs at hydro power plants stand at 39.6%.

Several issues have arisen in the supply of drinking water and the generation of power as a result of the drought situation experienced in the country.

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy further stated that as a result of this situation, an extra cost of more than Rs. 300 billion would have to be incurred.
