Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Neil De Alwis has issued a letter to all district secretaries of the country to take measures to organise a series of events to mark Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s 40 years of public service to the country, and 40 years since introduction of the open economy.
The letter calls on district secretaries to obtain the assistance of residents to host all night Pirith ceremonies on the night of August 3 and 4 to hold an almsgiving for 40 Theros of the Mahasangha.
According to the letter, each divisional secretariat has also been instructed to host four Bodhi Pooja ceremonies invoking blessings for the citizens, and the government of the country.
The letter instructs that religious programmes be held on that day representing all religions of the country including, Christianity, Hinduism and Islam.
