The Minister of Disaster Management, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa held a press briefing on Friday morning to outline the measures being taken to resettle the evacuees of the Meethottamulla tragedy.
The Minister announced that each family being evacuated from the high risk zones, will be exempted from repaying their outstanding housing loans, and will be given a Rs. 50,000 monthly allowance for three months.
The Minister added that 60 houses will be provided today to those affected.
The team of experts from Japan who arrived in the country to carry out investigations into the Meethotumulla garbage dump collapse are scheduled to visit the site again today, Friday, April 21.
