Sixty two (62) houses have been damaged by gale force winds that swept across many areas on Thursday night.
The Met. Department forecasts strong winds in the coastal areas of Colombo, Galle, Hambantota and Trincomalee after 12 noon on Saturday.
The Department of Meteorology on Friday, issued a weather warning for the coming days.
It adds that sudden roughness of the sea areas is associated with sudden increase of wind speed up to 70-80 kmph.The Department requests the fishing community to be extra-cautious when setting out to sea tomorrow.
A heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds caused damages to houses.
The Disaster Management Centre reports that 44 houses were damaged as a result of gale winds in Karuwalagaswewa, Puttalam. Ten houses were completely destroyed.
Six houses in Galehenakanda, Galle were damaged by gale winds.Bad weather also affected several areas in Bibila , Moneragala.
However, the Department of Meteorology says the bad weather could ease by tomorrow.
