MP Duminda Silva pleads guilty in case pertaining to non-declaration of assets

Former MP Duminda Silva has pleaded guilty for the non-declaration of assets during the three years he served as a parliamentarian.

Duminda Silva pleaded guilty when the case pertaining to this matter was taken up before the Colombo Additional Magistrate.

This case was filed against Duminda Silva by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The former MP, who is on death row was wheelchair bound when he was brought to Court by prison officers.

He was ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000 for each year that he failed to declare his assets and liabilities.

When Silva was not produced in Court at the previous hearing, a report was called for from a Medical Board led by the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo.

The Board determined that he was in good health and while the Additional Magistrate ordered that he be produced in Court, his Attorney submitted that Silva had contracted a sudden illness.

As such, the Additional Magistrate ordered that he be produced in Court today, April 06.
