The runway of the Bandaranaike International Airport which was under reconstruction will be re-opened today, April 06, and airport services will recommence as normal.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said, the airport was closed for a period of eight hours starting from January 06, in order to facilitate the reconstruction.
USD 50 million were spent on the reconstruction of the runway which was carried out by a Chinese company.
Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysinghe said, the Bandaranaike International Airport will now facilitate the landing of the A380 Airbus which is considered to be the world’s largest aircraft.
