A tense situation arose during a meeting of UNP Party activists in Ambalangoda. The meeting was being held at the party office of UNP organiser Bennet Paniyanduwa to discuss the party’s future activities, as well as plans for the May Day rally.

Minister P. Harrison as well as Vajira Abeygunawardene were also present at the occasion.

A tense situation arose as party members were not given a chance to raise their concerns..

Speaking to News1st, Bennet Paniyanduwa noted that the tense situation was caused by emotional UNPers as the ministers who arrived at the meeting did not pay any attention to the concerns expressed by the grassroot activists.

Enraged UNP activists, speaking to News1st, stated that in such a backdrop, they could not engage in politics with the UNP . The party activists also stated that they would boycott the May Day celebrations of the UNP.
