Influenza A on the rise – over 500 receive treatment in Lunugala

Health authorities say the spread on Influenza A is rapidly on the rise in the Lunugala area in Passara.

According to the district doctor at the Lunugala District hospital, Dr. T. Abeykoon,  forty patients who had contracted the virus are currently receiving in-house treatment.

He added that over 500 patients who contracted the virus receive treatment from the OPD at the hospital.

Meanwhile, health authorities add that a virus is rapidly on the rise of infection in the Puttalam District, while the Panadura Kethumathiya hospital has recorded two cases of the AH1N1 virus.

According to the medical Director of the hospital, seventeen pregnant mothers are currently receiving in-house treatment over the  virus. He further stated that two of the women have contracted the AH1N1 virus.

The Epidemiology Unit notes that the spread of the AH1N1 virus has increased in comparison to the past few years.
