The contentious plot of land in Malwana is set to be used for the benefit of the general public. The proceedings on the matter will be expedited, says the Ministry of Justice.

According to the Ministry, steps are already underway to obtain cabinet approval and the paper is currently being drafted.

The government has focused its attention on establishing a Police Training College in the land.

The land – said to be owned by Basil Rajapaksa – was originally scheduled to be auctioned on March 29. However, Police FCID made a request to court that the auction be halted.

As a result, the proceedings came to a halt yesterday, March 20, as ordered by the Pugoda Chief Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura.
