The Essential Food Commodities Importers, and Traders Association says that white sugar will have to be sold at a price between Rs.110 and Rs.115 per kilogramme in the near future.
Chairman Nihal Seneviratne said that Rs.107 is incurred per kilogramme to import one kilogramme of white sugar.
He said the price increase was decided after taking into consideration other costs as transport costs. He noted that white sugar was sold at the government stipulated price thus far, whilst incurring a loss on their part.
