Parliament adjourns after ‘commotion’

Parliament was adjourned till March 21, following an unruly situation that took place during the parliamentary session, today, March 10.

According to a News1st Parliamentary correspondent, former Speaker and MP Chamal Rajapaksa, speaking in parliament called on Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to allocate sufficient time for members of the Opposition.

Views were also expressed by several other Opposition MPs. According to the correspondent, a tense situation erupted while MP Keheliya Rambukwella was making his statement.

He added that government MPs decided to walk out of the Chambers during the tense situation.

During the commotion, Leader of the House Lakshman kiriella called on the Speaker to adjourn Parliament.

Thereby, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya took steps to adjourn Parliament till March 21.
