SLFP Women’s Front ceremony held under auspices of President Sirisena

A ceremony organised by the SLFP Women’s Front to mark International Women’s Day was held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena, on March 09.

The ceremony which was held at the SLFP Headquarters saw the participation of former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, ministers and Members of Parliament.

A large number of women representing many parts of the country attended the event.

Speaking at the ceremony President Sirisena said “We have witnessed in several instances, higher representation of women in a party would lead that party to an election victory”.

“We all saw how a former lady director came up to the Presidential Commission that was appointed to look in to the Central Bank bond scam and gave very accurate and very important evidence”.

Furthermore, he noted that the said lady director’s honesty was shown and that she has told before the Commission that she was helpless when she had certain forces suppressing her.

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga also noted on the superiority of women. The Facebook page of the SLFP Women’s Front was also launched at the occasion.
