After the initial ten minute adjournment following MP Weerawansa’s request, parliament was forced to take a second break as tension grew between MPs.
Parliament was adjourned at 1 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, following the announcement by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that the Weerawansa-led National freedom Front (JNP) cannot be accepted as a separate political party.
After reconvening, MP Dinesh Gunawardena had continuously objected the decision made by the Speaker. This led to MP Gunawardena being removed from the chambers until the next parliamentary session.
