The Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman says that action will be taken against an Oman agency in connection with detaining a Sri Lankan domestic worker for over four months, without heeding orders from the Embassy.
Thirty-seven-year old Shiroma Nirmali, a mother of two is a resident of Madampe, Egodawatte and had left for Oman last July via a foreign employment agency in Kotahena.
After working for over two months, she had visited the agency in Oman in the hope of returning to Sri Lanka owing to an illness.
Labour Advisory at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman H. P. Sumanasekara said that complaints will be lodged to the Oman Ministry of Labour, against the heads of the Foreign employment Agency over detaining Shiroma Nirmali.
He added that the said agency is asking for Rs.200,000 in order to send her back to the country.
