The United Nations Day of Vesak will be celebrated in Sri Lanka under the theme of Buddhist Teachings for a Sustainable World Peace and Social Justice.
International delegates from 85 countries are scheduled to attend the event which will be held from May 12 – 14.
A progress review meeting was recently held in pursuance of this event, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, at the president’s official residence.
Addressing the meeting, the Head of State pointed out the importance of organising such ceremonies, while paying special attention to spiritual values.
President Sirisena further instructed all the relevant authorities to implement quality programmes which enhance the inter-religious relationship with the assistance of all the relevant sectors.
