The Ministry of Health has taken steps to re-open twenty seven hospitals which have been closed down as a result of lack of doctors.
Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Amal Harsha De Silva said, hospitals in the Northern and Eastern Provinces will be re-opened.
He also said that out of the 311 resident medical appointments of the year 2017, 27 will be assigned to these hospitals.
Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva further noted that provincial ministers have been instructed to provide facilities for these doctors.
This move is expected to improve the quality of health services provided to patients in rural areas.
