President Maithripala Sirisena, speaking at an event at the Sri Lanka Customs, said that there has been a discourse about corruption and wastage in the country, over the past two years.

The president said:

If all sectors are talking about some factor that has become a problem to the progress of the country – it can be criticising, it can be satirical -but I see it in a positive light….”

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake noted that the current situation of the country is better – that the earnings are enough to pay the recurring expenses.

The theme of this year’s International Customs day is “Coordinated Border Management – An inclusive approach for connecting stakeholders”.

The president also presented certificates of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) to officials of the Sri Lanka Customs.
