The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested an individual while being in alleged possession of 2.25 kilogrammes of Kerala Cannabis in Thorankadu, Nilaveli.

The Navy stated that the stock of Kerala Cannabis and the suspect involved in the racket were arrested, following a tip off received from the Intelligence Unit.

The suspect and the stock of Kerala Cannabis have been handed over to the Trincomalee police for further investigations.

Meanwhile information has come to light regarding the transport of drugs via railways.

Railways Security Chief Anura Premaratne said that the information was revealed during a raid conducted by the Central Crimes Division.

Accordingly, a suspect who was transporting 20 packets of drugs in the night mail train was arrested recently.

He further noted that the Central Crimes Division will conduct raids continuously, in order to apprehend suspects engaged in smuggling drugs via railways.
