Turkish cargo plane crashes into Kyrgyzstan homes

A Turkish Airlines cargo plane has crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing at least 20 people.

The Boeing 747 crashed into homes near Manas airport, about 25km (15 miles) north of the capital, Bishkek, the Kyrgyz government said.

According to the airport administration, the plane was supposed to make a stopover at Manas, near the capital city Bishkek, on its way from Hong Kong to Istanbul. It crashed when trying to land in poor visibility at 7:31 local time.

Rescue workers have recovered the body of a pilot and 15 villagers, the healthcare ministry said.

The plane has crashed in a village, destroying at least 15 homes.

There are reports that one crew member survived.

Images on social media purporting to be of the crash site show fire and smoke rising from the rubble of destroyed buildings.
