A tense situation arose at the opening of the Sri Lanka – China Industrial Zone Development Project in Mirijjawila, Hambantota. Police fired water cannons at the protesters in order to settle situation.
The News 1st correspondent at the location noted that necessary steps have been taken to solve the issue. A point to note is that, regardless of the tense situation, the Prime Minister tried to continue with the opening ceremony.
In latest updates, police have fired tear gas at the protesters and 6 individuals and police have been hospitalised.
However, the opening ceremony of the Sri Lanka – China Industrial Zone Development Project in Mirijjawila, Hambantota continues.
