Five people have been shot dead by a gunman at Fort Lauderdale Airport in Florida. The incident occurred at the baggage claim area in Terminal 2, just before 13:00 US time (1800 GMT), the airport confirmed.
Sources claim that eight people were injured and taken to an area hospital. The gunman is believed to be a 26- year-old and an Iraqi war veteran. He was taken into FBI custody.
Two underwent surgery and all are in stable condition, Broward Health representatives said in a late afternoon press conference.
The shooter reportedly traveled with his gun legally, checking it with other luggage.Upon picking up his bags, however, he then took his gun and ammunition into a restroom before returning to baggage claim and opened fire.
All services were suspended at all terminals of the Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport.
However, the motive is under investigation, but officials said he probably acted alone. US media said, the man might have been mentally disturbed, as he reportedly said the government was controlling his mind and made him watch Jihadist videos.
