President Maithripala Sirisena says he has received information that Sri Lanka will receive the GSP+ trade concession next week.
The president added that Europe has taken measures to once again purchase fish from Sri Lanka, and information has been received that Sri Lanka will receive the GSP + trade concession next week
He went on to note that, at present, many speak of the Hambantota Port and the Industrial Zones but a consensual agreement on this matter is yet to be prepared.
“I am sad to point out that certain ministers and MPs misinterpreted the situation”, said the President
He further pointed out that they spoke of 15,000 acres of land but lands will only be given according to the laws and regulations of the constitution of Sri Lanka, and the land rights of this country will not be given to any country in the world.
He further assured that the government has no policy to evict people from their villages.
“It is true that we face an economic crisis, but it is not something that came about during these two year”, he said ,adding that the nation owes foreign nations Rs.9 trillion
He further noted that while ‘they’say that the government will be toppled this year there is no system seen to topple the government. But after the 2020 Elections a new government can be elected.
He explained that under this constitution, there is no provision to topple this government and you can only form a new government ‘if you get a hold of Speaker Karu Jayasurya and President Maithripala Sirisena’ but that will never happen.
The President graced the ceremony to open the newly-built bridge in Halloluwa, Dodanwala in Kandy, today.
The bridge, which has been built as a solution for the traffic in the Kandy Town, is 105 metres long.
The Mahanayake of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Sect the Most Venerable Varakagoda Sri Gnanarathne Thera, minister and MPs were among the gathering.
