A protest march was organised by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in Ambalantota on Friday, January 06.

The march was organised from the Dehigahalanda junction to Ambalantota.

A public meeting was held following the protest march, under the auspices of the leader of JVP, Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Speaking at the meeting JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake claimed that the Prime Minister has paved the way to sell the Hambantota port, to sell 15,000 acres of lands of the people in Hambantota – and that more plans are made to sell the Eastern jetty of the harbour, the fuel tanks complex, the mineral resources in Pulmodai, the  lead mines in Kahatagaha, the saltern in Hambantota and Mannar, the Air Lanka and the Hilton Hotel as well.

“The government is like an auctioneer of famous public properties”, he added.

JVP MP K. D. Lalkantha also addressed the meeting. He said that the Prime Minister “got twisted when he started having plans for the people in the Hambantota District.”

“If we have to stop these people from selling the country, we will have to topple the Maithri  – Ranil government and build a people-oriented government”, he added.
