The foundation stone, for what is said to be the biggest tyre-manufacturing factory in the country, was laid on Thursday the 5th of January under the auspices of the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
An investment of Rs, 11.25 billion has been made for the factory which is based in the Wagawatthe Board of Investment Industrial Zone in Horana.
The tyre-factory is owned by business tycoon Nandana Lokuwithana.
Speaking during the event, the prime minister noted that they are due to sign three to four agreements on the Hambantota Port. And once those agreements are signed, Minister Malik Samarawikrama will make a statement in Parliament and will table all of them to the house.
The Prime Minister stressed that they are working with transparency, and none of these lands contain places of religious worship or classified as archaeological sites.
