Three months have lapsed since a group of 26 sailors, including nine Sri Lankans, were imprisoned by Yemeni pirates.
A total of nine Sri Lankan sailors are aboard the ship owned by a Greek company. The ship Fair Appalon is currently anchored at the Al Hudeida Port in Yemen.
Director General of Merchant Shipping Ajith Senivirathne said that talks between Sri Lankan agents and local authorities, calling for the release of the sailors, are currently underway. Ajith Senivirathne added that a specific date on which the sailors will be released on has not been announced as court proceeding are still on going.
