Protest at Magamruhunupura Harbour comes to a halt

In compliance with the court order issued on Wednesday, protesting employees of the Magamruhunupura Harbour who were occupying the road leading to the main entrance to the Port, have vacated the premises.

Speaking to us, earlier the News1st correspondent who is at the location said that the protesters who are staging the protest for the ninth day today, vacated the stage they were occupying earlier, following the court orders that was issued.

However, the Satyagraha campaign which was launched by them for an 8th day today, is continuing, from a different location in close proximity to the Magamruhunupura port premises.

The Commissioner of Labour has assured that she will intervene as the third party in resolving the issue surrounding their employment at the Port.Our correspondent said that Navy personnel were dispatched to the main entrance to provide the necessary security.

There had also been reports of 37 new employees reporting to work at the Mahamruhunupura port.
