An event took place in Colombo for local government representatives of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna.

MP Mahinda Rajapaksa, speaking at the event said they are aware of the political situation in the country and that they are working at a time where there is no stability in the country.

“The way I see it, it is correct to say that we are moving towards a police-dominated state and an oppressive era”, he added.

He went on to note that the economy has collapsed, where the unemployment rate is rising and that the labour rights are taken away.

The MP also spoke on the Hambantota Port incident, saying that it is the first time that the Navy was used against a protest and that in the past, the police were used against the trade union leaders.
