Police have fired tear gas to disperse those who were demonstrating by obstructing the train tracks leading to Puttalam and the Negombo – Colombo Main Road.

Police said that it resorted to this action as the demonstrators defied court orders to disperse.

Three-wheeler drivers were engaged in the demonstration on the tracks and on the main road for over ten hours.

They were protesting against the fines imposed for traffic offences.
