The Department of Meteorology says that the depression in the South-west Bay of Bengal has developed into a deep depression and now located around 480km away from Trincomalee coast, to the east of Sri Lanka and it is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm during next 12 hours.
It is expected to move north-westward closer to Jaffna peninsula.
Under the influence of the system, very strong winds and heavy showers are expected in the Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces, until December 2,
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern and North Central provinces.
Heavy falls of more than 100 mm can be expected at some places.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Western, North-Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
