Former Chairman of COPE , D.E.W.Gunasekera stated that, this time around, it is the Auditor General who was appointed by this very government, and he is a professional with a vast experience in this field and respected by the public.
“He is the topmost individual in this profession”, said the former chairman who added that several MPs cannot call for several sections of his report to be removed. And if the observations of the Auditor General are to be removed, it would have an impact on the final say.
He further added that what has been proposed is somewhat of a tactical approach. But the Chairman does not seem to be involved in that and that is why he had stepped out – and that was the measure that had to be taken, he observed.
