The Supreme Court today, granted leave to proceed for a petition filed by Professor Ananda Samarasekara, the former Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo, seeking an order preventing his arrest.
The fundamental rights petition will be taken up on February 8.
Through his petition, Professor Samarasekara is seeking an order preventing the Criminal Investigations Department from arresting him, over the misplacement of bones from the body of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, during the post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne was placed under arrest by the Negombo Police today, October 24, over a road accident which occurred in 2001.
He was later produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court and was ordered to be placed in remand custody until November 1.
