A revision of the daily wage of estate workers takes place once in two years, the revision of wages for last year was due in March.
However, owning to the non revision of wages, several protest were staged by estate workers over the past few days.
A joint agreement between estate workers trade unions and estate owners to resolve the trade union action launched by estate workers calling for an increase in their daily wages was signed today, October 18th.
Accordingly, the daily wage of estate workers have been raised to Rs.730.
Ministers Mahinda Samarasinghe, Malik Samarawickrama and W. D.J. Seneviratne were also present at the final meeting.
Earlier the daily wage of an estate worker, including all allowances, was 650 rupees.
