The first elephant sanctuary in Latin America has opened up in Brazil to provide a home for an estimated 50 circus animals from across the region.

The sanctuary was opened with the arrival of Maia and Guida. The two Asian elephants that previously were circus performers will live out their lives on about 2,800 acres of land in the western part of the country.

They will be provided with veterinary care and live out their lives in forested areas with pastures.

The Sanctuary….

  • The Sanctuary in Brazil is an exciting new project that will help transform the lives and the future of captive elephants inte South American region.
  •

Through the development of an expansive, natural habitat preserve, staffed with compassionate caregivers applying a holistic approach to health and well-being.

  •

The sanctuary will offer a naturalistic life that captive elephants need to truly have.
