An international conference, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police, commenced on Tuesday, October 04, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
The conference themed Future Policing: Prospects and Challenges for South Asia, was graced by the IGP, senior brass of the police, the National Police Commission and police officers from the region.
The conference is scheduled to end on October 6.
Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara speaking on the occasion made the following observations:
A dynamic post conflict society in Sri Lanka demands qualitatively and quantitative modernised police, with a democratic outlook and commitment towards its responsibilities, and accountability under the constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. Human Rights form the basis for Sri Lanka police service who are legally and morally bound to serve and protect the people.”
