People in seven districts, affected by the drought, complain that the distribution of drinking water through bowsers, is taking place in an arbitrary manner.
The water sources of many villages in the districts of Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa , Trincomalee, Killinochchi, Vavuniya, Monaragala, Ratnapura and Kurunegala have dried up.
51,561 families that are directly affected by the drought engage in a daily struggle to obtain water that is being distributed by bowsers. Drought conditions are a seasonal occurrence in these areas and can last for four months or longer.
In this backdrop, why are the authorities not prepared to face the situation? If dry weather conditions persist, can a continuous drinking water supply be ensured?
