The Gammadda 100-Days Initiative contributed to the effort to building a knowledge-based society on Sunday, October 2. Three decades of conflict have battered the village of Thambalagamuwa in Trincomalee.
When the fires of war were finally doused, even the books used by these children were naught but ruins.
Today, a neglected building was transformed into a library through the Gammadda 100-Days Initiative, contributing to propagating knowledge among our society.
The renovated Public Library in Thambalagamuwa, was declared open today under the auspices of Nedra Weerasinghe, Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited.
The books in this library will enrich the minds of 400 children from three schools in the area.
The distribution of books and a tree-planting campaign undertaken parallel to the Gammadda 100-Days Initiative, also got underway in Thambalagamuwa.
The 148th Gammadda Saviya branch was established in Thambalagamuwa, Trincomalee on Sunday.
