President Maithripala Sirisena convened an emergency meeting to discuss solutions that could be provided to the issues that had cropped up with the prevailing arid weather conditions.
During the meeting, president has reiterated that solutions must be provided to the issue of scarcity of drinking water, which encompass the entire country.
Secretaries of the ministries or heads of organisations in the fields of Water Supply, Irrigation, Mahaweli, Health and Wild Life were present at the meeting held at the president’s office.
The resident advised the officials present that all institutes should actively participate to reduce the damage caused by the scarcity of drinking water, spread of diseases, and the damages caused by animals who enter villages as a result of the dry weather.
While relief will be provided to those who are affected, the president also reiterated the importance of implementing projects to supply water to prevent such situations in the future.
