A discussion was held in a bid to look into the inquiries of the investors of the Batticaloa district today.The event was held under the auspices of State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe in Manmunai Pattu Divisional Secretariat office in the Batticaloa district.
Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Hafeez Nazir Ahamad, Senior Journalist J. Sri Ranga, MPs Seeni Thambi Yogeswaran and Nyanamuttu Sirinesan were present at the occasion.
Our correspondent said that the few other invitees failed to attend the meeting.
State Minister of International Trade, Sujeewa Senasinghe pointed out that investor interest in the country has not yet been seen. And therefore the foundation is being laid and markets being opened with the Free Trade Agreements, and by next year there will interest from investors and it is being attempted to get in to the Transpacific Partnership (TPP)
He added that the economy of the country is expected to grow at about 8% or 9% and the debt of about 10 trillion is being attempted to be brought down to five trillion. He observed that while there have been proposals for gas refinery for about two billion as well as oil refinery, sugar refinery and a couple of cement factories – these are the macro development that has been taken on within this short period, he pointed out.
