The Island newspaper published an article today citing a statement made by the Director General of the Government Information Department Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya.
According to the article, Dr. Kalansooriya says that the collection as well as distribution of donations, is not the responsibility of the media organisations: instead they should provide accurate information to the public.
However, at two meetings today, members of two leading political parties praised the News 1st Gammadda Initiative.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Youth Front Shantha Bandara, made these comments at the SLFP Headquarters.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Youth Front, Shantha Bandara stated that despite various governments implementing programmes to eradicate poverty, there are many who suffer due to poverty.
He added that these days, through the Gammadda initiative on Sirasa, the shortcomings and hardships faced by rural communities are seen, and their issues are being communicated to the entire nation
At an event held in Balapitiya, Ashoka Danawansa , UNP Southern Provincial Councillor expressed the following views on the Gammadda 100-Days Initiative.
UNP Southern Provincial Councillor and Balapitiya Organiser, Ashoka Danawansa pointed out that many things are being highlighted through the Gammadda Initiative of the Sirasa Media, and people are funding projects and they are carried out.
